Michael graduated from the University of Alberta in the Commerce program and received his CFA designation in 1987. Mike's career in the investment industry began in 1981 with McLeod Young Weir. After two years Mike moved to Peters & Co. Limited where he was a partner and spent fifteen years covering institutional clients in Montreal and in the U.S. Mike is one of the founding partners of the Ross Smith Energy Group.
