Jim graduated from Queen’s University in geological engineering in 1982 and was hired by Texaco Canada Resources Ltd. He spent seven years with Texaco, first as a production engineer in the Pembina oil field then as a reservoir engineer. Jim became a qualified reserves evaluator for Texaco Inc. in 1986. After Texaco was purchased by Imperial Oil in 1989, he moved to Coles Gilbert Associates Ltd. (now GLJ Petroleum Consultants) as an evaluation engineer where he was a partner of the firm for six years. Jim joined Gardiner Oil and Gas Limited as its western district engineer in 1996. Following the sale of the company a year later, Jim co-founded Gardiner Exploration Ltd., which was bought by Cypress Energy Ltd. in May 1999. Jim joined and became a partner of the Ross Smith Energy Group in June of 1999 and became president in 2002. RSEG was acquired by ITG Investment Research in 2011 where Jim co-headed energy research. Along with Manuj, Jim is now President and co-CEO of RSEG.
Manuj is the co-CEO of RS Energy Group and shares responsibility with Jim Jarrell for running all facets of the business. Over the last 17 years he has completed several hundred evaluations of public and private producers, plays and assets. Manuj has served as a trusted advisor for multiple company boards and executive teams around strategy and execution on new and existing assets. Prior to RS Energy Group, Manuj was Co-Head of Energy Research at ITG who in 2011 acquired the Ross Smith Energy Group where Manuj was a partner. He obtained his bachelor of commerce degree (with distinction) from the University of Calgary and is a CFA and FRM charterholder.
Ian joined RS Energy Group (RSEG) as the Chief Technology Officer in June 2016. Ian takes a hands-on, collaborative approach to his technology strategies and has extensive knowledge in designing and architecting SaaS-based software from concept through completion. In his previous role with Hubspan (now Liaison Technologies), Ian was awarded Product Development/Management Executive of the Year for his implementation and integration of key technical strategies and initiatives. Ian has an entrepreneurial spirit and passion for helping build organizations that deliver innovative software products with agile and cutting-edge approaches. Ian graduated from the University of Waterloo with a Bachelor Degree in Mathematics and Computer Science.
Matt is responsible for global sales, marketing, and customer success at RS Energy Group (RSEG). Matt brings more than 20 years of experience in sales leadership, operations, marketing, and customer service. Before joining RSEG, Matt’s executive leadership roles spanned both private and public entities, from start-ups to leading global sales and alliances for a large public company. Matt has significant experience delivering dynamic information, insight, and software to global energy firms. He champions a sales culture based on trust, communication and integrity ensuring that there is a collaborative, partnering relationship with every client. Matt holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Baylor University, with a major in Marketing.
Tom joined RSEG in 2016 as Chief Financial Officer following several years as the CFO for Crain Communications, a privately held media company. Prior to Crain, he was the VP of Finance at ProQuest, leading their digital content publishing efforts.
He has also held executive level positions with publicly traded entities, including Pulte Homes and Borders Group, was an equity analyst with Manning & Napier Advisors, worked in M&A with Deloitte, and began his career as a CPA with Ernst & Young.
Tom has an MBA from the UCLA Anderson School of Management, and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Michigan State University.
Leila joined RSEG in August 2006 as the Chief Operating Officer. Leila's 25 years of investment industry experience has included serving as Chief Compliance Officer and Operations Manager at other securities regulated firms. Leila is responsible for managing the day to day operations of RSEG. Her responsibilities also include human resources and she is the onsite compliance officer.
Trevor has been analyzing the energy industry for 17 years, signing on with RSEG in July 2003 after working three years as an economist at the Canadian Energy Research Institute. He graduated from the University of Calgary in 2000, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree (with distinction) in applied energy economics. Trevor is responsible for asset characterization and financial modeling, primarily focusing on U.S. plays and companies. A frequent presenter at industry conferences, he also regularly manages advisory projects involving corporate and asset level valuation.
David worked six years for Talisman Energy before joining RSEG in 2007. His time at Talisman was split between exploitation and production operations, and his responsibilities included developing and executing multi-well programs, implementing waterflood schemes, evaluating A&D opportunities, reserves management, facility and pipeline construction, field facility modeling and well optimization. David’s focus at RSEG has been on North American unconventional oil and gas plays and is currently the senior analyst on the Permian asset team. In addition to his day-today responsibilities, David has managed several advisory mandates, including distressed debt recapitalizations and private equity investments. David is registered as a professional engineer (petroleum and chemical) in Alberta. He received a bachelor of engineering science in chemical engineering from Western University in 2001.
Gibson became a member of RSEG in June 2004 after working for two years in Talisman Energy’s land acquisitions and divestitures group. While at Talisman, Gibson was responsible for land contracts analysis, post-closing due diligence and systems integration. Gibson was raised in an oil services environment, having lived, studied and worked in six countries, with summers spent as an oilfield services mechanic in Nisku, Alberta. In 2002, Gibson graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a bachelor degree in administrative and commercial studies, specializing in finance and administration, and earned his CFA charter in 2009. Gibson is a frequent presenter at industry conferences and a team lead on consulting/advisory projects.
